World Albatross Day will be celebrated on June 19, 2025
World Albatross Day is celebrated annually on June 19th. This year will mark its 20th year. Established by the Agreement on the Conservation of Albatrosses and Petrels (ACAP), the agreement has raised awareness about the threats its listed albatrosses, petrels, and shearwaters face and promotes their conservation.
Each year, World Albatross Day features a different theme to highlight a specific threat faced by albatrosses. This year’s theme is “Marine Protected Areas – Safeguarding our Oceans.”
Past themes have included:
- 2020: Eradicating Island Pests
- 2021: Ensuring Albatross-friendly Fisheries
- 2022: Climate Change
- 2023: Plastic Pollution
- 2024: Marine Protected Areas
How you can help:
You can help protect albatrosses in many ways, even if you don’t live near their habitats. Here are a few ideas:
- Learn more about albatrosses and the threats they face.
- Support organizations that are working to conserve albatrosses.
- Reduce your use of plastic.
- Choose sustainable seafood.
By taking action, we can all help ensure that albatrosses continue to soar through the skies for generations to come.
