Who We Are?
Akinori Takahashi
Akinori obtained both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s of Science from Hokkaido University. In 2001, he attained his Ph.D. at The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI) with his thesis on the foraging and breeding ecology of Adélie penguins. Akinori has contributed to numerous seabird research projects in the Antarctic, Arctic, and Pacific regions through collaborations both domestically and internationally.
“I became captivated by birds at the age of 10, particularly seabirds, with their varied lifestyles and remarkable adaptations to marine environments. Throughout my research career, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with diverse partners, studying a range of seabird species across habitats spanning from the Arctic to the Antarctic. I’m particularly thrilled about delving into their at-sea behavior using cutting-edge biologging techniques. Given the mounting global threats like climate change and HPAI posing risks to seabird populations, concerted efforts are imperative to ensure their survival.“
